Strength, Speed and Experience key for ORICA-SCOTT at Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne

Thu 23 Feb 2017

ORICA-SCOTT will line up at the 69th edition of Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne in Belgium this Sunday completing the action packed double-header of the Flemish Opening Weekend.

Road captain and 2016 Paris Roubaix champion Mathew Hayman will lead a strong squad for the 200kilometre race that includes fellow Australian Luke Durbridge.

After a stage victory at the recent Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana and a race win at the Clasica de Almeria 24-year-old Magnus Cort has enjoyed a flying start to 2017 and earns a protected role for Sunday’s race alongside local classics specialist Jens Keuekeleire.

“We have a strong team for the weekend and hopefully we can carry some of our early season form into these races,” said Sport director Laurenzo Lapage. “After the performances we have seen from Magnus already this year we know that he is strong and will fight for his position no matter how tough the conditions are.”

“The weather looks bad for Saturday and Sunday which can make for some hard racing, but that’s what we have come to expect from these races and we have a team able to deal with it.”

In an event that, over the years has developed a reputation as a sprinters classic Cort and Keukeleire will be supported by a strong engine room including Chris Juul Jensen, Sam Bewley and Svein Tuft.

“We will be looking to get our guys in the best position possible for the race finale,” continued Lapage. “The experience of Mat Hayman is always important in the Northern Classics and alongside the sheer strength and speed of the rest of the team Jens and Magnus will be well supported.”

Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne takes place this Sunday and the iconic parcours features twelve climbs, including La Houppe, Kruisberg and the Oude Kwaremont all arriving before the final 60kilometres.
