Van Vleuten eyes success in the velodrome

Mon 16 Oct 2017

Recently crowned individual time trial world champion Annemiek van Vleuten has left little time to celebrate as she names her next cycling goal and ambitions in the velodrome.

The 35-year-old ORICA-SCOTT rider has had her most successful road season to date, which she finished off perfectly after achieving a rainbow jersey in Bergen, Norway.

The talented Dutch women has since gone on to claim victory at the national mountain bike marathon championships last week, adding another national jersey to her collection and is now preparing for a debut on the track in the three kilometre individual pursuit to see whether the goal of a world championship title in the event next year in Apeldoorn could be a realistic target or not.

“The plan is to race the European championships and then the World Cup in Poland,” van Vleuten said. “After that we are going to make a decision.”

“My ambitions are high, if I think a world title is not possible, I will not try for the World Championships next year.

“I will only go when I see opportunities for a rainbow jersey. If not, I will focus on spring on the road."

With high ambitions and a ´never give up´ mentality, Van Vleuten is serious about this next challenge and has been preparing for the European championship event which takes place in Berlin from the 19th to 22nd October.

We wish Annemiek the best of luck with her next challenge.
