It wasn't the best outing for the team that started at a disadvantage with only five riders when most teams had six. Amanda Spratt and Rowena Fry both reported feeling less than their best ahead of the race start, so in addition to be outnumbered, the squad lacked full-strength. Jessie MacLean delievered the top result on the day, 25th place in the field sprint.
"We had lost Tiff and Spratty, and it just Al and Jess for the finish. Jessie has quicker final kick, so Alex decided to set her up for the sprint. Alex put Jessie in a good position, but she did it quite early. At the one kilometer mark, Jessie was isolated and she got swamped. She didn’t have the legs to negotiate the finish alone that far out from the line." - Sports Director Dave McPartland
