Ride London Classique - Race Overview

Women’s Tour stage four winner Sarah Roy finished in twelfth place for ORICA-SCOTTwomen in a hectic sprint in heavy rain on The Mall at the Ride London Classique toady after a fast paced 66kilometre grand prix.

Typical conditions for the English summer could do nothing to slow down the speed of today’s race as twelve laps of the 5.5kilometre circuit unfolded in no time at all.

Unsurprisingly the sprinters teams controlled the race from start to finish with the constant high speed discouraging any ideas of attacks.

ORICA-SCOTT women rode well and fought hard to maintain their position near the front and keep Roy and Gracie Elvin in the mix.

In the end the anticipated bunch sprint final played out with Coryn Rivera (Team-Sunweb) taking the victory and Roy in 12th place with Elvin close behind.

“It was an aggressive race right from the start,” said sport director Gene Bates. “The pace was high and all the team’s kept it flat out, there wasn’t much chance for us to create the kind of race that we wanted and I think there were only two early attacks that were shut down instantly.”
