Baden Cooke delivered consistent results in sprints during his first season with ORICA-GreenEDGE. Second in Oman. Two times fifth in Norway in May. Second in Switzerland in June. The results belie the full story. Baden notched several of these strong finishes while riding in support of a designated sprinter.
The Victorian won the second stage of the Tour de France in 2003, the same year in which he won the green points jersey. The battle for the green jersey that year continued all the way to Paris with Baden taking second on the Champs-Elysées to win the sprint competition by two points ahead of Robbie McEwen.
Baden got his start with an American team and made a name for himself on Française des Jeux, alongside Matt Wilson and countryman Bradley McGee. His time on the French squad was followed by stints with a succession of smaller two and two years at Bjarne Riis’ Saxo Bank set-up.
On some of the best form he has had in many years, Baden is intent on winning a classic and remains excited about the opportunity to work alongside his ORICA-GreenEDGE teammates with similar ambitions.
