Fidanza gets up for seventh in Lotto Belgium Tour stage one sprint finale

Italian Arianna Fidanza mixed it with the fast finishers on stage one of the Lotto Belgium Tour, coming away with a top-10 finish in Bruges.

It was a typically Belgian day of racing with attacks and splits coming and going in the opening half of the race. Team BikeExchange then moved to the head of the peloton with Moniek Tenniglo, Jess Allen and Janneke Ensing taking control with 50km remaining.

Despite a number of late attacks the stage came down to the anticipated bunch sprint, with Fidanza battling her way to seventh place in the fast and hectic dash for the line.

Arianna Fidanza:
“The race was fast with some splits from the beginning, but I felt good all day and I was always in the first group on the road when the race split.

It was a nervous and technical race and the position in the final was really important. Unfortunately, I started my sprint a bit behind, but I still finished in the top-10.”
