The classics continue as Team BikeExchange-Jayco look to turn their fortunes around in Belgium at Dwars door Vlaanderen tomorrow.
Dutch sprint start Dylan Groenewegen will be hoping to avenge his ill-timed puncture at Gent-Wevelgem and his agonisingly close second place finish at Brugge-De Panne, and will be backed by strong support squad that includes Luka Mezgec, fresh off his 13th place finish on Sunday.
At 184 kilometres, Dwars door Vlaanderen features a familiar mix of cobbles and Flemish hills. The peloton will face 13 hills in total, and four stretches of Belgian pavé, all packed into the second-half of the race.
Team BikeExchange-Jayco Line-Up:
Luke Durbridge (AUS)
Alex Edmondson (AUS)
Dylan Groenewegen (NED)
Kelland O’Brien (AUS)
Alex Konychev (ITA)
Luka Mezgec (SLO)
Campbell Stewart (NZL)
Dylan Groenewegen:
“I always love to go back to Dwars door Vlaanderen because it is a race that I like. The route is challenging with its many climbs, and I think it will be a small group to fight for the victory.
To have a good race, you need to be in shape and have a lot of luck. Last Sunday at Gent-Wevelgem, for example, I was fine, and I was in a good position, but then I punctured, and my race ended at that moment.”
Mathew Hayman (Sport Director):
“With some changes to the route this year, I think this race suits our team and their strengths, and we have seen that both Dylan and Luka are in good shape.
After Dylan got a flat tyre at a critical point in Gent-Wevelgem, we will aim to replace that disappointment by supporting him if it comes down to a group sprint.”
