Team BikeExchange-Jayco return to Belgium tomorrow with a strong and fast finishing squad for the one-day Brussels Cycling Classic.
Australian duo Kaden Groves and Michael Matthews will lead the team at the 200km race, with the pair looking to add to their 2022 wins tally. A powerful and capable support group will be built around them with New Zealander’s Jack Bauer and Dion Smith.
Italian Alexander Konychev and Australian Kell O’Brien will be key leadout men should the day come down to a bunch sprint.
The 2022 finale will be challenging with the double passage of the Muur-Kapelmuur, Bosberg and Congoberg, with the last climb of the day, the Heiligekruiswegstraat, coming just 14 kilometres from the finish.
Team BikeExchange-Jayco Line-Up:
Jack Bauer (NZL)
Kaden Groves (AUS)
Alexander Konychev (ITA)
Michael Matthews (AUS)
Kelland O’Brien (AUS)
Dion Smith (NZL)
Kaden Groves:
“I’m ready to go back racing in Belgium after a some good performances in Estonia last week. My shape is good and we have a really strong team for Sunday and multiple cards to play with Michael and I.“
David McPartland – Sport Director:
“Usually, the Brussel Classis is a highly spectacular race with a challenging and often uncertain finish. In the first part, we pass through Wallonie where we face some côtes, and then we go to Flanders, where there will be no shortage of Muur, like the Kapelmuur and Bosberg .
We have different possibilities depending on how the race will develop. For the sprint, our man will be Kaden Groves, and if instead there are attacks from afar and there will be selection, Michael Matthews will be able to play his cards.“
