U23 European Champion Felix Engelhardt to step up to the WorldTour with Team BikeExchange-Jayco

Team BikeExchange-Jayco is pleased to welcome newly crowned U23 European Champion Felix Engelhardt to the team on a two-year neo-pro contract. The 21-year-old rider from Germany has shown great potential racing in Europe, with the Australian outfit excited to see what he can achieve given the right support, joining the WorldTour peloton.

The rider from Germany caught the attention of the squad earlier in the year with his victory at the U23 European Championships in July and a strong sixth-place finish at the ‘baby’ Giro d’Italia, confirming that he has the pedigree to compete with the World’s best and be a great champion of the future.

After the confirmed re-signing of team leaders Simon Yates and Michael Matthews, the Australian outfit is also committed to developing the next generation of riders and with Engelhardt, the team believe he is a big talent for the future, with a lot of potential but already a lot of experience from racing in the European peloton.

Brent Copeland – General Manager
“We believe we have found a great talent and top rider for the future with Felix. He is only a young rider but has already shown a lot of maturity and that he can compete and win at the highest level. He has a lot to learn, and we are motivated to help develop him and see him grow as a rider as he makes the step up to become a professional rider with the team next season.

We have a lot of experienced guys that he can learn from, and it is always exciting bringing young talent on to the team with a lot of potential. It is going to be a big couple of years for GreenEDGE Cycling and we are pleased to have riders like Felix be a part of it.”

“For me, joining Team BikeExchange-Jayco is a dream come true. Since I started cycling I have always been looking up to the team, especially for its great atmosphere, and after speaking to Brent and Matthew that is what persuaded me to join the team. Its ways of working are on the highest possible level and it’s one of the top teams, but it also has a great team spirit and I immediately felt welcome.

For the next two years my goal is to further improve my physical capabilities, but also learn from the more experienced guys to find my way into the WorldTour and support the team in the best ways possible.”
