Manly secures her debut WorldTour GC podium at the Tour of Scandinavia

Australian Alex Manly has secured her first WorldTour general classification podium placing after a stunning and consistent performance across the six days of racing at the inaugural Tour of Scandinavia.

The 26-year-old finished third overall after taking her debut WorldTour stage win on day four in a thrilling sprint finish, following up two top-five finishes on stages two and three. Manly demonstrated her impressive form once again on the Queen Stage as she battled to fifth place on the summit finish in Norefjell, before sprinting to eighth on today’s final stage to secure her overall podium placing,

It was another fast and frantic day of racing on stage six, with an exciting finale on the finishing circuits in Halden. Not content to sit back and wait for the sprint, Team BikeExchange-Jayco launched a series of attacks, first with Ruby Roseman-Gannon and then with Manly on the final lap.

However, neither move could stick as the peloton charged down a lone leader inside the final kilometre. The tight and technical run to the line made positioning key, with Nina Kessler fighting through the chaos to take sixth place on the stage, two places ahead of her teammate Manly.

Alex Manly (3rd Overall):
“It’s been a very good week in Scandinavia, to come home with third on the GC with this team is really, really special.

I think we’ve bonded really well this week and it’s been a great team effort from everybody, there’s no way it would have happened without people learning from each day and committing to the plan every single day. We’re super happy, the staff and everyone, it’s been great!”

Martin Vestby (Sport Director):
“It’s been a really good week of racing, the girls have been racing really well together and finishing it off with a podium for Alex is really great.

I think we missed out on some small things, but with the team we have they are backing each other up and finding different ways to what we had planned, so it’s been a good week.”
