Team BikeExchange-Jayco is pleased to confirm the signing of former Australian rower Georgie Howe on a two-year deal. The team will welcome the talented 28-year-old into the WorldTour peloton in 2023, having spotted her huge engine and great potential when she began competitive cycling earlier this season.
Howe made a name for herself in the cycling world in January, with a dominant victory at the Oceania Continental Time Trial Championships and an overall victory in the Australian road series event at the Mitchelton Tour of Gippsland.
Despite her short cycling career, the former rower has already been able to get a taste for racing oversees, with a spell in Belgium where she settled into the European peloton well, finishing fourth overall at the Baloise Ladies Tour, highlighting her fast and seemingly smooth transition over to road cycling.
With her incredible strength and power, putting out huge ‘numbers,’ after 13 years competing at the highest-level rowing, Team BikeExchange-Jayco is excited to have the opportunity to work with and help develop such a raw talent. The squad believes that with the right environment, support and tools, the Princeton University student has the potential to develop into one of the big-name cycling stars of the future.
Brent Copeland – General Manager
“We really believe we have found an amazing talent with Georgie. It is always exciting for any organisation to have a mature and experienced athlete coming onboard from another sport, and for us to have this opportunity to work with Georgie and teach her the ropes of the Women’s WorldTour is very motivating.
We are a very experienced group of staff and riders in this team, and it will be a big step for her to make this transition into the busy racing schedule. She will have to go through a process of learning at every single race and will most likely make some mistakes in this new experience, but we are very intrigued to see what she will be able to achieve over the next two years and we have a lot of trust in her abilities.”
Georgie Howe
“I have chosen Team BikeExchange-Jayco because the team has always been very professional with a great image. Also, I had a great impression with the performance team, and this is very important for me in order to follow up and continue a rapid development.
I would like to continue as a student of cycling and use that curiosity to be the best teammate I can be. I am curious to see my abilities in the time trial races and compete with the best in the world, but of course I would also like to improve and compete at the highest level in the spring classics, starting with the iconic Paris-Roubaix.
Then, like every woman in the peloton, the dream is to one day compete in the Tour de France Femmes and support the team to win it, but we need to take it one step at a time. First I need to learn as much as possible from my teammates and not put too much pressure on myself straightaway. I am very excited for the new adventure, curious for the unknown and really grateful for the opportunity I have. Of course, the main goal is always to keep joy in the center for anything you are doing, and success will surely follow.”
