GP INDURAIN – 1st April
ITZULIA PAIS VASCO – 3rd to 8th April
Spain 🇪🇸
Matteo Sobrero
“I’m really looking forward to racing GP Indurain, it will be my first time at the race. It’s hilly and long and should be a good test and a good opportunity for me and the team to go for a result ahead of Pais Vasco. Pais Vasco we will support Yates as our leader.”
Simon Yates
“I’m looking forward to returning to the Basque Country, it is an area I love to race in. The racing is always really hard with the relentless terrain, unpredictable weather and a lot of steep, short and punchy climbs that I like to race on. The racing is usually really aggressive at ‘Itzulia’ and I expect this year will be no different.
After a different start to the season for me, starting off in Australia in January, the form is building again, and I am feeling good after recovering and training hard since Paris-Nice. We have a solid team, and it will be great to race with Dunbar, as he returns to racing after his injury. It is slightly different this year with no ITT but still many similar climbs like the final stage in Eibar. Let’s hope it is a good six days.”
Matt White – Director of High Performance & Racing
“The goal for Pais Vasco is to support Simon to the best of our ability and give him the best chance to win a stage and arrive on the final podium. I think it is a course and style of racing that really suits his characteristics and we have a strong team to support him for this race.
For Indurain, we have a small team line-up but it will be a good opportunity for Sobrero and realistically a top-10 result would be good, he is moving well at the moment.”
