RACE PREVIEW – Tour of Flanders Men & Women

Tour of Flanders – Men
Belgium đź‡§đź‡Ş

Sunday 2nd April

Michael Matthews
“I returned to the races after almost two weeks off due to COVID and I think I gave my best at Dwars door Vlaanderen by finishing in the front. We did a good job as a team and I think it was good preparation for Flanders on Sunday. It is a big one, an important one and it is always special to race Flanders. The climbs and the crowds are like nothing else. Hopefully, I can continue my recovery, I’m very motivated going into the race and really happy be back racing even if I’m not absolutely 100% just yet.”

Mathew Hayman – Sport Director
“All the cobbled races in Belgium lead to this Sunday. It’s a race that the whole of the country stops for, one that every rider knows is special. We had some very positive signs from both Michael Matthews and Kelland O’Brien in the race on Wednesday. They will be well-supported on Sunday at Flanders. There are a number of riders and teams that have dominated these races during the past weeks, we will be looking for ways to force an upset.”

Sunday 2nd April

Letizia Paternoster
“It’s hard to hide a bit of excitement for my first ever Tour of Flanders. Everyone told me about it as a cruel but beautiful race at the same time and I can’t wait to face the first Flemish Muur. After the crash in De Panne I stopped for a few days and then resumed my preparation. Yesterday I did a 5-hour workout and the sensations are good. I will give everything I can and also try to help Ruby who is riding really well and is strong at the moment.”

Martin Vestby – Sport Director
“Tour of Flanders is the biggest classic of the spring season and we will be at the start with a very strong team. We have Ruby who has gone very well in the previous races and took a strong fifth place in Dwars door Vlaanderen last Wednesday. She will be one of our leaders together with Letizia. It will be up to the two of them to share the responsibilities of the race and they will both be supported by a strong and balanced team. I am sure that we will finish the series of Flemish classics in a great way.”
