Another top-5 for Edmondson on stage 4 of CRO RaceFri 4 Oct 2019
Former Australian champion Alex Edmondson has sprinted to his fourth consecutive top-5 place at CRO Race today.
After a reasonably controlled day of racing Edmondson showed the strength of his legs to go with a move of three on the final climb, before the race came back together for a technical sprint finish.
With countless corners to contend with, a number of riders slid out and crashed in the final kilometre. The Mitchelton-SCOTT rider managed to avoid the danger, and despite being slightly held up sprinted to fifth place behind stage winner Dusan Rajovic (Adria-Mobil).
“Today was a much nicer day with the weather plus some amazing scenery along the coast.
“Astana controlled it all day then we helped to bring the break back with Sam (Bewley) and Barnie (Barnabas Peak). Then on the climb I felt good and a few guys jumped which I thought could be dangerous so I jumped with them but unfortunately we got caught with two kilometres to go.
“I then tried to stay at the front but it was hectic with guys just committing full gas in 90 degree corners which was never going to end well. I got caught behind two of the crashes which took me out of contention for being able to go for the sprint.
“Tomorrow’s going to be a solid day with some solid climbs so it’s all in for Adam.”
