Australian Callum Scotson to move up to the WorldTour with Mitchelton-SCOTT in 2019

Fri 17 Aug 2018

Current Australian U23 time trial champion Callum Scotson will join UCI WorldTour cycling team Mitchelton-SCOTT in 2019 on a two-year deal that highlights a continued commitment to identifying and developing young talent by the Australian team.

A world champion and Olympic silver medalist on the track in 2016 in the team pursuit and a double bronze medalist at the 2018 World Championships, Scotson has divided this season between track and road commitments with UCI Continental team Mitchelton-BikeExchange.

The 22-year-old time trial specialist and future classics prospect follows compatriot and current teammate Robert Stannard who has previously been announced to step up to the Mitchelton-SCOTT ranks for 2019.

Callum Scotson:
“To join Mitchelton-SCOTT next year is literally a dream come true for me. For years I have wanted to become a professional road rider one day, and I can't think of a better team to be able to do that with. I'm excited for the new experiences that lie ahead and can't wait for 2019 to come around.”

“I think it's been a pretty steady progression for me over the last few years as a complete cyclist. I've had some great results on the track over the last couple of years which has always been a big focus.

“This year with Mitchelton-BikeExchange however, I think I've developed a lot as a road rider and now feel much more prepared to step into a professional road team. The team gave me great support this year to target and achieve big goals on both the road and track and I'm grateful for that.”

Matt White - Head Sports Director:
“Callum is a really exciting prospect for the future on a couple of fronts. He has a very strong track pedigree including a world championship gold medal in the team pursuit, but he is also a world class time triallist on the road with a lot of classics potential.”

“He is a very versatile rider and has shown that at various stages throughout the current season, coming fifth at the U23 Paris-Roubaix not long after picking up two bronze medals on the track at the European Championships shows he can transition well.

“Callum already has existing relationships with riders on the team, such as another track world champion, Cameron Meyer. The two of them compete regularly together on the boards and that partnership has proven to be successful.

“We’ve also shown with Cameron that we are supportive of our rider’s ambitions on both road and track and we’re looking forward to helping Callum reach the next level in his development.”
