GreenEDGE Travel, Giro 2019 experience officially sold out with record numbers

Tue 26 Mar 2019

The first Grand Tour of the 2019 season, the Giro d’Italia is fast approaching, with just under 50 days left until go-time.

It is immensely exciting to reveal that the GreenEDGE Travel Giro Dolomite Explorer experience has officially sold out, with record numbers signed up and set to join the team in full support as they battle it out once more for the prestigious Maglia Rosa this May.

Dolomites dominated:
The tour, to be hosted and led by former GreenEDGE team captain Stuart O’Grady, will take place in the closing week of the race, predominantly Dolomites based as the riders face some incredibly mountainous final week stages, before a decisive race against the clock in Verona. The city, famous for ‘love’, will certainly be dispersing some come the final showdown and coincidingly, some inevitable heartbreak for those that fall short.

GreenEDGE Travel guests will not only be witnessing the most thrilling of race-action moments from premium viewing locations, they'll also be going head-to-head with the Dolomites themselves. That is, if they dare. The famously brutal Mortirolo Pass will be tackled just hours ahead of the pro peloton on Stage 16, leaving enough time to fight it out to its summit over some relentlessly steep gradients. It will be no easy feat, however the reward atop will have guests grinning from ear to ear, elated, satisfied and primed for action as they await the race eagerly over a summit picnic lunch, nervously anticipating who will rise to the top first.

The climbing won’t end there, with the unique Passo San Boldo also on the cards. Famous for its countless series of hairpin bends carved directly into the side of the mountain, six of which are masterfully hidden by tunnels. Visually impressive and another challenging climb for our guests to conquer ahead of the race on Stage 19. They will once again embrace the spectacular atmosphere Italy always bring to its grandest cycling event at the summit, and get set to cheer on the team as they fly across its peak soon after.

The penultimate, Stage 20 will provide every opportunity for contenders to leave it all out on the road as a grueling Passo Croce D'Aune hill-top finish awaits them. It’s no surprise that the Giro d’Italia organisers have made every effort in this years’ tour design to lay challenge after challenge for the competitors. GreenEDGE Travel guests will be getting their last taste of mountain madness before nervously awaiting the last real hurrah of this year’s Giro d’Italia.

Here’s hoping for a Simon Yates special and a successful penultimate stage for the team.

Bella Italia:
GreenEDGE Travel will not only be experiencing the thrilling final week of Giro action, but embracing the stunning landscape, different regions and incredible culture along the way. It is Italy after all and arguably one of the most culturally rich, beautiful countries in the world.

Our guests will be absorbing the best of it as we follow the race’s course; from Prosecco tasting, to indulging in the outstanding gastronomy and beyond.

Getting behind the team:
GreenEDGE Travel strives to create a platform for supporters to engage with the team at a whole new level, allowing insider access and unprecedented insights from both riders and staff while on tour. At the Giro, this unique opportunity will allow guests to truly get behind the team as they join them in their final bid for Giro d’Italia success, reveling in the ultimate fan experience.

The Giro will prove a very significant target for the contingent, following a valiant effort in the 2018 edition that saw Simon Yates and team perform above and beyond expectation, in dominating fashion. Subsequently leading to heartbreak in the final stages of the race, but with learnings and a new-found confidence that ultimately saw him through to his La Vuelta victory last September.

GreenEDGE Travel guests will join the team on numerous occasions throughout the week; from a welcoming rest day meet and greet, to the final toast in Verona.

Although places have been filled for May’s experience, GreenEDGE Travel does not end there for this season, as the team take on the Tour de France in July and strive for a La Vuelta double in September.
