Oceania champion Michael Hepburn (Australia) was ORICA-GreenEDGE’s top finisher at the UCI Road Cycling World Championship time trial in Richmond, USA.

Hepburn, the 2014 national champion, was the first rider down the ramp and set the early time to beat of one hour 4:28minutes.

At the end of racing, 64 riders later, the 24 year-old sat in 15th place behind a surprising podium of Vasil Kiryienka (Belerus, 1:02:29), Adriano Malori (Italy, +9sec) and Jerome Coppel (France, +26sec).

Hepburn, who had given everything he had, could be seen throwing up in the final 200m of the 53km effort.

“It was a hard race today,” Hepburn said. “The course was relentless. There wasn’t any place that you could back off.”

ORICA-GreenEDGE’s other representatives Luke Durbridge (Australia, +2:18) and Sam Bewley (New Zealand +3:44) finished 20th and 43rd respectively.
