Hoskins wraps up top ten on stage one of Energiewacht Tour

Thu 9 Apr 2015

With the famous Dutch wind non-existent for the opening road stage of the Energiewacht Tour, the 105km journey around Westerwolde was one for the sprinters.

A large peloton came into the technical finish, which they had seen three times previously as part of the finishing circuit, but it was Jolien D’hoore (Wiggle Honda Team) that best negotiated the run in for the first stage victory.

Anna Van der Breggen (Rabobank-Liv) finished fifth to retain the leader’s jersey she won in the opening prologue whilst ORICA-AIS’ Melissa Hoskins rounded up the ten top, one ahead of teammate Lizzie Williams in 11th place.

Earlier in the day, it was an uncharacteristically relaxed women’s peloton that allowed Simone Marijn de Vries (WV de Kannibaal Ronald McDonald) and Winanda Spoor (GRC Jan van Arckel) to spend the majority of the day out front.

That changed as the race moved into the pointy end of the day as they picked up the pace to sweep up the duo in the final five kilometres.
