Johansson sprints to fourth at Marianne Vos Classic

Swedish champion Emma Johansson has sprinted to fourth place from a breakaway at the Rabobank 7-Dorpenomloop Aalburg, also known as the Marianne Vos Classic, this afternoon.

In more positive news for ORICA-AIS, Chloe McConville also made the initial break of 13riders in her European debut for the team.

The move went in the first 25km of racing as wind and the pace of proceedings also saw numbers diminish from the backend of the pack.

As the group crossed the finish passage they had a minute and a half advantage from the peloton who from that point, never looked likely to be back in the race. By the time the local finishing circuits began, their advantage was over three minutes.

McConville dropped out of the front group, followed by a further rider, leaving 11 at the front of proceedings.

As the race approached its latter stages the attacks began within the breakaway, particularly from Rabobank, but Wiggle Honda were adamant on keeping it together – a successful strategy that saw Chloe Hosking claim the victory.
