Keukeleire maintains solid GC position with strong time trial at Eneco Tour

Belgian Jens Keukeleire has kept himself in contention for a solid general classification result at the Eneco Tour with a strong ride in the stage three individual time trial today.

Keukeleire finished the 9.6km race against the clock 33seconds behind stage winner Tom Dumoulin (GIA) for 27th position.  Michael Hepburn was ORICA-GreenEDGE’s top finisher in 16th position, 25seconds slower than the winning time of 10'55".

“The most important thing for us results wise was Jens Keukeleire and he had a really really good ride so we are very happy with that,” sport director Matt Wilson said.

“He is in a good position now for GC (general classification) so we have to have a look at where everyone is placed.

“It’s a really strange race this with the Belgian cobble stage coming up and then the Ardennes Classics stage towards the end of the week.

“They suit very different types of riders and skill sets are going to come into play. It should be really interesting and hopefully Jens can have a good one.”

Starting the day with top ten hopes, Hepburn proved close to the mark just five seconds off the required pace.

“I thought that Hepburn and Mouris were both capable of a top ten,” Wilson said.

“That's what they were going for and Heppy (Hepburn) was not far outside that so it is not necessarily surprising or disappointing. At the end of the day he wasn’t too far off it.”
