Last hit out for ORICA-AIS before world championshipsMon 31 Aug 2015
ORICA-AIS will race its final race of the season, the Boels Rental Ladies Tour, ahead of the world championships from tomorrow.
The outfit will field a rare all-Australian lineup for the six-day Tour in Holland and despite the world championships being an upcoming consideration, the team has plenty to achieve in the next week of racing.
“One of our main objectives will be to get through without any problems whilst preparing the team with perfect loading going into Richmond for the team time trial world championships” sport director Gene Bates said.
“As well at this, we have riders to cover both stage objectives and overall.
“Amanda Spratt, Gracie Elvin and Lizzie Williams are very capable and in great shape at the moment, so a stage win will be a target for them.
“Katrin Garfoot is gaining more and more confidence. Pieced together with a good time trial and very selective last road stage she could also achieve a good general classification result for the team.”
Having started racing on January 2, it’s coming to the end of a long season, but Bates is confident the riders and team have managed their programs well to ensure they still have plenty to give in these final weeks.
“We really are in the final weeks of the women's European road season and at this time of the year a switched on head is just as important as good legs and body,” Bates said. “But the girls are in great shape and should only get better with this final tour.”
“They are really motivated from the last few races and Plouay really just confirmed that they are on the right track for both this race and the worlds.”
