Mitchelton-SCOTT all in to try and seal the 2018 Hammer Series victory at Hammer Hong Hong showdownThu 11 Oct 2018
Mitchelton-SCOTT are ready for the third and decisive Hammer Series race of the 2018 season, Hammer Hong Kong presented by Sun Hung Kai Properties. After winning the previous two rounds, the Australian outfit go into the final race as the current series leaders with a 28 point advantage over second placed team Quickstep-Floors.
With a well rounded group to tackle the two important and diverse events, which includes European champion Matteo Trentin, the squad is confident and motivated to continue their winning ways and finish off the series with the overall title win.
Unlike the previous two rounds, Hammer Stavanger and Hammer Limburg, Hammer Hong Kong sees two races in one-day, the Hammer Sprint followed by the Hammer Chase which will make for a hard and intense day of racing where recovery will be crucial.
This shorter format makes for an exciting and decisive 'Sunday Showdown' and the team is built with well balanced and experienced riders to suit each event.
“It will be exciting because it is the first Hammer Series in Hong Kong. For us leading there is a little bit of pressure, we want to perform well, we have done so well in the season so far so we want to finish it off and try to win the series.
“It is going to be tough all on one-day, we won’t have much time to recover between the first and second event and that is going to play a role, it will be who can back-up the best for two events in one-day. It will be intense and I think the racing will be just as fast as the other races and I think we will get a true winner.”
“I’m excited to race the Hammer Series for the first time, I raced the Hong Kong Cyclothon the last two years and the fan engagement is something special. The Hammer Series is going to add an even bigger element. We have a motivated group and hopefully we can finish it off and win the series overall.”
Matt Wilson - Sport director
“It’s a massive goal for us. We have taken it very seriously from the beginning and we’re in the lead at the moment, but it is far from going to be easy, especially with Quickstep-Floors breathing down our necks. It’s right at the end of the season, but it’s a big focus for us.”
“We are lucky in this team that we have a lot of those riders, very flexible riders, like Cameron Meyer, who can do it all, Roger Kluge, Matteo Trentin – these are guys who can sprint, time trial, climb, whatever."
Sunday 14th October: Hammer Chase 21.5km and Hammer Sprint 10laps
