The race:
Il Lombardia is the final of cycling’s five monuments, of biggest one-day races, of the year.

The 241km Autumn Classic features a tough parcours and is known to favour the strong climbers who have a kick to their finish.

Race history:
Mitchelton-SCOTT won Il Lombardia in 2016 with Esteban Chaves. Of the team lining up in 2018, Mikel Nieve has finish in the top ten on three occasions and Michael Albasini once.

Roman Kreuziger:
“We are really looking forward to the final monument of the season. It’s a beautiful race between Bergamo and Como with some hard climbs that make things interesting.

“Even though it’s towards the end of the season, the bunch is still strong with guys like Alejandro Valverde, Romain Bardet, Thibaut Pinot, Vincenzo Nibali and more, still motivated like we are.

“The parcours is almost the same as last year which will make is very selective in the final 60km.

“Personally, I haven’t had good feelings after the world championships but I really like these long classics and I am motivated to finish the season well because it will be my last race with the team.

“We have a really good team with Mikel Nieve, Jack Haig, Adam Yates and myself, so we can try to go in the early moves to be in the fight.”
