October recap & reactions

Wed 19 Dec 2018

October, the final racing month of the 2018 season saw Mitchelton-SCOTT riders claim four victories in Asia to make the season total - 26 UCI wins for the women's team and 38 UCI wins for the men's team.

After dominating the two Hammer Series events earlier in the year - Hammer Stavanger and Hammer Limburg, the squad finished things off in Hong Kong with a win in the sprint event which was enough to crown Mitchelton-SCOTT the inaugural overall winner of the 2018 Hammer Series.

Following on with their winning ways, European champion Matteo Trentin gave the team a stage victory in the Tour of Guangxi, his first ever win for Mitchelton-SCOTT, before Rob Power took his second victory of the season winning the Japan Cup to round up the Australian outfit’s most successful season to date.

Here’s our winner riders post-race reactions:

Cameron Meyer - Hammer Hong Kong – Overall team
"The Tour of Guangxi will be a tough last race of the season but the win at Hammer Hong Kong has given us extra motivation that we can perform well.

"We do have a mixed team but I think Matteo Trentin is going strong and can be up a good result in the tour. We will look to be active and take our chances on each day. I think we are all going well."

Matteo Trentin - Tour of Guangxi stage winner
"It was really good today we knew that if we did the climb hard then the top sprinters would be tired to do the sprint.

"Luka Mezgec did a great lead-out but unfortunately crashed, not from his fault. I am really happy because it is my first win with the team and my first win in the European kit before the end of the season.

"Let's see tomorrow, because tomorrow is similar to today so if somebody wants to go super hard on the climb again then we are going to be there again."

Rob Power - Japan Cup Cycle winner
“The whole team rode really well today, and it was nice to be back racing in Japan. I really enjoyed this race two years ago, so to come back here and win is great.

“It’s a special win because it’s my last race in Mitchelton-SCOTT colours and I really wanted to come here and do my best to say thank you for the last few years.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time with the team and I am pleased we were able to get a result here and close out the season in such a positive way.”
