ORICA-AIS narrowly miss podium at Vargarda team time trial

Fri 22 Aug 2014

ORICA-AIS has narrowly missed out on a podium, finishing fourth in the team time trial at the Vargarda World Cup in Sweden this evening.

After a strong start, the team fought on for the second half of the 42.5km race against the clock despite being down two riders.

The ORICA-AIS team stopped the clock at 53minutes 3seconds.  Specialized – Lululemon put on a dominant display to win in 52:12.

“To be honest we were probably a bit disappointed with the overall result,” sport director Gene Bates said.

“We lost two riders before the half way mark of the race, which obviously put a huge amount of pressure on the other four riders, leaving them to do 20km themselves.

“We were second fastest at the first time check, third fastest at next time check and then we ran fourth by 15seconds.

“We will review the footage from the race, take a lot of lessons from it and put our best foot forward at the world championships.”

The Vargarda World Cup continues with a road race on Sunday.
