Phil Anderson Cycling Tours and ORICA-GreenEDGE have joined forces to a create a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience Le Tour on some of the most picturesque stages of the race's 100th edition. This unique collaboration allows you to touch the race and a WorldTour team on an intimate level. You will meet the ORICA-GreenEDGE riders who have made the cut into the 2013 Tour de France team. You will meet team managers, directors and staff, all the while experiencing your own tour, on the road and on your bike.

After the rigours of the Pyrenees, the Tour de France heads north and Phil has designed a tour which takes in the beauty of Normandy, the Loire Valley and which allows you, tour members, to interact with ORICA-GreenEDGE at Le Tour daily.

Starting on the first of the official rest days before another sharp dive south to the Mont Ventoux, Phil  and ORICA-GreenEDGE invite you to join them on this exciting  package that will see the outcome of Le Tour take shape after the individual time trial in Mont Saint Michel before the peleton heads finally to the Alps and then to Paris for the race's spectacular finale.

Ride with Phil through the Garden of France as we make our way through the  beautiful historic towns that play host to the Tour de France. Robbie McEwen will join us on day four for dinner and will share his Tour knowledge to enhance your tour experience. Enjoy the opportunity to review the race from the crucial individual time trial stage into the final week week of racing. The GC contenders will have truly made their intentions clear after an early foray into the Pyrenees and the ITT may determine the destiny of a few here before the sprinters come out to play once again.

Watch the individual time trial in Mont Saint-Michel, 2 stage finishes and a stage start as part of your trip. 8 July 2013 - Monday

TdF Rest Day

Phil and our staff welcome you to Rennes, the capital of Brittany, which will be your home for the next two nights. Our staff will meet you at our Rennes Hotel at 9.00.

After we have checked in and set up our bikes, we will head out for our traditional welcome ride, rolling out the legs after our long travels.  We may ride up north towards the coast or in and around the city of Rennes.  We return to our hotel for a brief lunch before the excitement of the tour really begins as we head off to meet the ORICA-GreenEDGE team at their hotel.

Met at the door by Shayne Bannan, you will be given you a brief run down on the team’s performance during the first week of racing.  Allow the the experts, Phil Anderson and Robbie McEwen to provide commentary on Le Tour followed by a personal introduction to the team.  We will spend some time inspecting the team bus at close quarters, watch the mechanics at work, talk to the support staff and generally mingle at the action end of a WorldTour team on its first rest day of this Grand Tour.

Arriving back in Rennes for our group welcome dinner, you will find this town a hive of activity during summer with people making the most of the free street entertainment. Rennes also offers a vast array of restaurants, cafes and bars should you wish to be tempted by additional delights after dinner.

9 July 2013 - Tuesday

TdF Stage 10, Saint-Gildas-des-Bois > Saint-Malo 193km

With the peloton due in St Malo for a late finish we have an opportunity for a relaxed start to the day by cycling standards with our ride taking us directly North to St Malo, where we will witness the mad scramble of a stage finish of Le Tour. The excitement of a sprint finish is hard to deny. You will be in the thick of it as the peloton rumbles into town, the teams likely to manage the breaks for a green jersey points contest on the line.

As we wait for the team to arrive, visit the team compound and feel the tension build with the impending arrival of the peleton.

After the crowds have subsided from the finish line, we board our coach and drive back to the hotel to shower and change before heading into Rennes for dinner at your leisure.

Should you choose not to ride, let us escort you to St Malo where the ancient granite walled city will amaze you.  St Malo is a thriving port town. With its beautiful cobbled streets and many hotels, restaurants and bars, it is the perfect place to explore and absorb the local culture. Visit the town’s centrepiece, St Vincent Cathedral or take a wander out to Fort National, accessible only at low tide. Finish the day with a stop at one of the many delicious “creperies” and enjoy this local speciality before the grand finale, a stage finish of Le Tour.

10 July 2013 – Wednesday

Stage 11, Avranches > Mont-Saint-Michel ITT 33km

This morning we say goodbye to Rennes and Brittany but not before heading back up north to watch the individual time trial in Mont-Saint-Michel. This is a crucial day and for many of us our hearts will be on our sleeves as we cheer for the ORICA-GreenEDGE boys.

We will check out early today as Phil intends to lead the riders to Avaranches via the narrow roadways of the Armorician peninsula.  Our coach will meet us close to the start village where you will be able to get changed before spending the afternoon watching the riders as they prepare for the start of this most crucial stage.

The individual time trial is a great opportunity to get very close to your favourite riders, especially at the Village Depart. Interact with the team as each rider prepares to head off to the start gate.

Mont Saint-Michel is a small rocky island connected to the mainland by a thin natural land bridge, with the city characterised by medieval architecture. With its impressive Norman Benedictine Abbey, Mont Saint-Michel has a very majestic fairy-tale quality with guests recommended to take the time out and climb the 900 stairs to the top of the abbey for some spectacular views. What a back drop to this most important stage.

After the final rider leaves the start line we will transfer as a group southeast to our next stop in the charming city of Tours.

11 July 2013 - Thursday

Stage 12 Fougères > Tours 218km

Le Tour finishes in Tours today at the end of a very long stage. We could expect a break to stay away today as the stronger riders push for glory.

This morning we have planned a leisurely loop ride from out hotel..  You may choose to accept the mission or stay in bed, however the afternoon’s activities will please.

We will spend the afternoon securing our best position to see the riders sprint into town. After the festivities you will have free time to explore the town of Tours. Sandwiched between the Loire and the Cher Rivers, Tours has a distinct charm, housing some historically beautiful monuments that are definitely worth a visit. Amongst these are Cathedrale Saint de Tours, which has been described as flamboyantly gothic and a beautiful sight. If churches aren’t your cup of tea explore the city centre and sample some of the renowned wines of the Touraine region on offer.

After you’ve finished wandering the streets and enjoying the spectacle of the presentations, we will transfer back to our hotel where Phil Anderson and ORICA-GreenEDGE’s Robbie McEwen will host our farewell dinner.

12 July 2013 - Friday

Stage 13 Tours > Saint-Amand-Montrond 173km

Although your tour finishes this morning, Le Tour will be starting in town for Stage 13 of the Tour de France.  After breakfast we will check out of the hotel, and you will have the choice to either stay in town to see the stage start or transfer for your onward travels.

We will drop you in the heart of Tours at the Tours train station.

Finally we have one last opportunity to offer a GreenEDGE treatment on this final day.  Transferring early morning into Tours, we will spend some time with one of the ORICA-GreenEDGE sport directors, whose job it is to follow behind the riders during a race.  Look over the team follow car while he discusses his role, giving us an understanding of the pressures involved in this job, positioning on the road, riders position in the race team strategy and the support he provides.

Should you wish to stay in Tours for the start of the stage we are able to accommodate your needs by securing your luggage until 1300.

Today is the end of services provided by Phil Anderson Cycling Tour travel representatives unless you are travelling with us to the next stage of the Tour de France.

Standard hotel check-in time is 14.00hr and checkout time is 12.00hr (noon). The order of sightseeing tours may vary according to local conditions or unforeseen circumstances, and will remain at the discretion of the tour operator.

Phil Anderson Cycling Tours will provide bikes for all guests on our grand depart tour however should you wish to bring a steed with sleeker breeding lines or colours that match the French national flag you are most welcome.
