ORICA-SCOTT continue Italian racing with the mid-week Tre Valli VaresineSat 30 Sep 2017
ORICA-SCOTT will line-up next week at the 97th edition Tre Valli Varesine as they continue their run of one-day Italian races.
Last year Jens Keukeleire finish in a respectable seventh place, in what was a hard and aggressive race and the team return this year with a mixed, strong eight-rider line-up.
“There’s usually a mixture of guys left at the finish in this race,” sport director Dave McPartland explained. “We can mix it up with the team we have, with climbers such as Esteban Chaves and Carlos Verona and then we have fast punchy guys like Michael Albasini and Keukeleire.”
“We have guys to go in moves and take their own opportunities but also we have guys for the final if it does come together again.”
The Australian outfit have previously tasted success in this race when Swiss rider Albasini won the event back in 2014 and are motivated to improve on last years result and take another victory.
Fast Danes, Chris Juul-Jensen and Vuelta a Espana stage winner Magnus Cort will be joined by climbing talent, Spaniard Ruben Plaza and young Australian Rob Power who rounds up the ORICA-SCOTT squad.
“This race is a good lead in race to the monument Llombardia the following weekend," McPartland continued. "The riders have all been racing well recently and I think it will be another exciting race this year.”
The 192km race begins with an opening 77kilometres that includes two climbs, the Orino and the Motta Rossa, before the race enters the finishing circuits were the riders will complete nine laps of a 12.8kilometre loop around Varese with another climb to tackle each lap.
