ORICA-SCOTT head to Gran Premio Miguel Indurain with a strong team to support Simon Yates

ORICA-SCOTT return to racing in the Basque country this weekend at the Gran Premio Miguel Indurain.

The one-day hilly race will be led by Paris-Nice stage winner Simon Yates with a strong ORICA-SCOTT group supporting him.

“We have good options up our sleeves for this race,” explained sport director Dave McPartland. “We have Roman Kreuziger there as a right hand man to Yates and it is another good opportunity for us.”

Alongside Kreuziger and Yates will be talented climbers in Jayco Herald SunTour winner Damien Howson, last week’s top ten overall placer in Volta Catalunya Carlos Verona, Jack Haig and youngster Rob Power.

With the Pais Vasco six-day race beginning the two days later in a similar area it provides the team with a good hit out to test the legs on the climbs and go for another victory with Yates.

“A lot of the riders often race this race then recover on Sunday before the Pais Vasco,” McPartland continued. “It is another good opportunity for us to attack a one-day race and try and come away with another victory with the really good team that we have lining up.

“We will be up against Movistar, it is their home race and they won it last year so I expect they will be motivated for it again but I think we can come away with a good result on this course.”

Rounding up the strong ORICA-SCOTT team and providing the vital horse power will be Canadian Svein Tuft and former Australian time trial champion Michael Hepburn.
