ORICA-SCOTT motivated for Boels Rental Ladies Tour winFri 25 Aug 2017
ORICA-SCOTT head to Holland next week for the penultimate Women’s WorldTour event, the Boels Rental Ladies Tour, with a diverse team highly motivated to take stage wins.
With a mixed line-up and a variety of stages, sport director Gene Bates is excited to see what the team can achieve during the six-day tour with their multiple options and open approach.
“We have a really competitive team coming to this race,” Bates said. “Across the board everybody is great shape, super motivated and healthy which is sometimes half the battle this late in the season.”
“We are going into the race with big ambitions and I think we are capable of winning stages. There’s really something for everyone in this tour.”
In-form Annemiek van Vleuten is looking forward to racing a WorldTour stage race in her home country and with the opening prologue taking place in her home town, it gives the Dutch time trial champion and extra incentive to fight for the victory.
“Of course I will be very motivated to show my red, white and blue national champion skin suit in the opening prologue starting in my hometown Wageningen, which is pretty cool,” Van Vleuten said.
“With two time trials during the tour and two hard days in the south of Holland, the team can definitely look to taking stage wins and with that the general classification can be a realistic goal for us.”
Joining the 34-year-old will be a strong team boasting a range of strengths with Tour of Flanders runner up Gracie Elvin, Tour Down Under winner Amanda Spratt and OVO Women’s Tour stage winner and sprinter Sarah Roy.
Young Australian Jess Allen and 24-year-old Kiwi Georgia Williams round up the six-rider ORICA-SCOTT team.
“There’s the prologue and the time trial which Annemiek will target quite heavily, then a couple of flat stages and then hiller ones so we actually have riders suited to each of these stage,” Bates continued.
“It will be a full on tour for us and there isn’t any day where we will say lets take a back seat. To have different riders suited to each day is really great for us.”
