ORICA-SCOTT women looking for opportunities in the mid-week Pajot Hills ClassicMon 27 Mar 2017
ORICA-SCOTT women continue their classics run this Wednesday at the one-day race Pajot Hills Classic.
Last year the race concluded with a bunch sprint where former Australian criterium champion Sarah Roy sprinted to elevnth place in the inaugural edition.
This year the team approach the race with an open mind looking to make the most of another opportunity to race in their build up to the Tour of Flanders.
“We are really focusing this week on getting the process right and letting the result come to us,” sport director Gene Bates said. “Everyone has been working really well, the girls have clear goals for the race and what we are trying to achieve.”
“As long as we put ourselves in a position to get the best result possible, go through the correct process then I think it can be a really good race for us.”
2017 signing, New Zealander Georgia Williams has quickly settled into the team well and the mid-week race provides a great opportunity for herself and the others to take their chances in a non pressure environment with the main goal for the team this week being the Tour of Flanders on Sunday.
“Georgia has been racing really well, she has fitted into the team so well and gets a long with everyone,” Bates continued. “For Georgie and Katrin Garfoot they will have a free reign in this race to have a go in the final.”
“I think it is a great race for that, it will be a good field but not a WorldTour field with Flanders being on Sunday so it is a perfect opportunity for us to have a go and a different approach with out any real pressure.”
For Dwars door Vlaanderen runner up Gracie Elvin and Santos Tour Down Under winner Amanda Spratt the mid-week race provides them with a final hit out before the weekend alongwith youngsters Australian criterium champion Jess Allen and Jenelle Crooks who round up the six-rider line up.
The UCI 1.2 cateogry race covers multiple cobble sections and climbs and finishes in Gooike.
