ORICA-SCOTT with options for the second one-day race of the weekend, GP Bruno Beghelli

The second race of the Italian weekend is the 22nd edition of GP Bruno Beghelli were ORICA-SCOTT line-up with a balanced, fast team for the 196kilometre event.

Last year Jens Keukeleire sprinted to third place and returns this year with a motivated and strong ORICA-SCOTT squad suited to the course.

“We have a really good team for this race with some really good lead-out riders,” sport director Dave McPartland said. “The race often finishes with a large bunch sprint of around 60 or 70 riders and I expect this year to be the same.”

The race begins in Beghelli with a flat opening 63kilometres before the riders tackle ten laps of a 13.3kilometre circuit which includes one main climb each lap, 3.5kilometres in length.

“Last year we put the hammer down with around two laps to go and the race came back together again for a sprint,” McPartland continued. “It’s a tricky climb but it is short, it isn’t long enough to do huge damage to the peloton."

“We have riders who can sprint well, climb well and strong fast guys to lead out so we certianly have multiple options.”

Keukeleire will be joined by Tour of Romandie stage winner Michael Albasini, Slovenian champion Luka Mezgec, Dane Chris Juul-Jensen, powerful German Roger Kluge and 2016 Vuelta Espana stage winner Magnus Cort.

Herald SunTour winner Damien Howson and youngster Rob Power add the climbing talent and round up the eight-man team line-up.
