Rider reactions: Pre Giro-Rosa

Fri 6 Jul 2018

On the morning of the opening stage of the 2018 Giro-Rosa, we asked our seven riders their thoughts ahead of one of the toughest editions of the 10-day Giro-Rosa. Here's what they had to say:

Lucy Kennedy

"It is my first Giro-Rosa and also my first race in twelve weeks since my crash at Amstel Gold Race and I am really excited to be back racing and being back with the team. Physically I am really good, it may just be a bit a bit of getting used to in the peloton and racing again for the first few stages but I am confident in my fitness and really looking forward to it."

Amanda Spratt

"I think I am most looking forward to the stages later in the race which are really tough, challenging, hilly ones, especially the Zoncolon. I think a lot of riders a petrified of that climb but I am just really excited."

Jess Allen

"This is my first time riding the Giro-Rosa so I am very excited to ride with Mitchelton-SCOTT. We have really high GC hopes for this year's tour so I am looking forward to supporting our leaders and seeing what they can do."

Jolien D'Hoore

"I am looking forward to stage three and four especially, they are suppose to be flat stages so should be sprints. The team here is very strong, we have a lot of climbers in the team so I am really hoping I can help them a lot."

Sarah Roy

"I am most looking forward to seeing our climbers unleash this year. We have come here with a really strong team and I am pumped. We have riders who can do well in every stage so I think it will be an awesome week for us."

Annemiek van Vleuten

"I am looking forward to riding up the Zoncolon, it will be a really decisive stage and super epic to race up. I think I am in really good nick and I feel stronger than I did last year. I also look forward to racing with the team, it will be a real team effort with staff and riders and we are all super prepared."

Gracie Elvin

"This has been my favourite season so far with the team, we have really created something special and I am looking forward to some goosebumps moments. No matter the result we will have great time together and we know how to have a lot of fun but at the same time be super focussed and I think every stage is going to be interesting."
