Rider reactions: Giro-Rosa

Mon 16 Jul 2018

It has been a huge 10-day for Mitchelton-SCOTT women as they dominated the Italian Grand Tour - the Giro-Rosa. With the overall victory their main goal, the motivated team went out to try and achieve this, taking no less than six individual stage wins and three jerseys along the way.

Here’s what the riders had to say after their unforgettable time at the 2018 Giro-Rosa:

Gracie Elvin

“I knew this was going to be a special Giro-Rosa, but I didn’t imagine it to be this special with six stage wins and three jerseys. The best part was that everyday the team brought their A game, the staff, the riders, everybody.

”We had really short post stage meetings because there wasn’t much to talk about, everyone back each other 100% and not make many mistakes and it was so cool to be a part of.”

Jess Allen

“I don’t think it could get much better than this for my first Giro-Rosa. I was pretty nervous coming into it but I rode into and the team was awesome the whole week. I don’t think we expected to go this well, to get six out of ten stage wins is unbelievable.

“Not only stage wins, but our team time trial ride on stage one was a huge performance from us aswell, only one second behind Team Sunweb and with only four girls left for the final kilometres, that was pretty impressive.”

Amanda Spratt

“The riders, the staff, everyone has worked so hard for this, it’s giving me goosebumps to see how well we have all worked together. Everybody was committed to the plan and we have achieved so much with a lot of selfless teamwork, it has been an unforgettable 10 days.”

Jolien D’hoore

“Everyday was a really hard day, we never had an easy day and we did it with so much courage. We were all happy to do it and it paid off in the end with six stage wins, the three jersey’s. It was amazing and the atmosphere in the team was so good aswell, we really had so much fun."

Annemiek van Vleuten

“We prepared so well for this race and to win this much and do it in this way, racing with confidence and control it’s a super story for the team.

“I thought that I would never win the Giro-Rosa. My first one was in 2010 and I always thought that I am not a climber, so it won’t happen, but to win on the Zoncolan and then the final stage and the GC, it’s very special."

Sarah Roy

“This Giro-Rosa has been standout for us, we performed much better than expected as a team. We all came together well, we each had a specific job to do and we fulfilled that role day in day out and we always backed each other. It has been a great ten days of hard work.”
