Sixth for MTS women in Postnord Vårgårda WestSweden Team Time Trial

Sat 17 Aug 2019

Mitchelton-SCOTT women had a hit out in the time trial event today, during the 17th round of the UCI Women’s WorldTour series in Postnord Vårgårda WestSweden, eventually finishing in sixth place in the predominately flat event.

With the team’s main focus on the road race tomorrow, today’s TTT effort was a good warm-up ride to test the legs and another opportunity to practice their TTT skills. Trek-Segafredo claimed the race win after an impressive ride, finishing 25seconds ahead of their nearest rivals.

Windy Conditions

On the slightly shorter and modified course compared to previous edition, the riders set off for a 35.6kilometre race against the clock, with faster and flatter rides boding well for a rapid TTT effort.

Gusty winds made the event even harder and Mitchelton-SCOTT worked to ride as smooth as possible and use their riders strengths to their advantage knowing the win would be a tough ask.

Early leaders

Team Sunweb were the first team to set the benchmark with a fast time of 44minutes and 39seconds, over one-minute quicker than their nearest rival. Once all the team’s had completed the distance, it was only Canyon SRAM Racing and Trek-Segafredo who were able to beat them.

Having not ridden many TTT with this combination of riders, Mitchelton-SCOTT produced a consistent ride but finished off the pace, one-minute 50seconds down on the eventual race winners Trek-Segafredo.

Tomorrow the team turns their attention to a 145kilometre road race with eight gravel road sections on the menu as they eye their first victory on Swedish soil.
