Sport Director Laurenzo Lapage Previews Tour of TurkeySat 20 Apr 2013
ORICA-GreenEDGE was a regular fixture on the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey podium last year with Matt Goss sprinting to second four times and winning the points classification. The team hopes to become reacquainted with the podium during their return trip to Turkey.
“This is an important race for our team,” said Sport Director Laurenzo Lapage. “We have good memories from last year. While we’re happy with what we accomplished then, we want to do even better this year. We’ll be ready to make an impact on the sprint stages and the overall.”
With Goss slated to race Tour de Romandie, ORICA-GreenEDGE will look to Leigh Howard and Aidis Kruopis in the bunch finishes.
“We will target stage wins on the flat stages with Leigh and Aidis,” said Lapage. “We have two strong sprinters, and this gives us multiple options.”
The eight day Turkish Tour features increased hills compared to last year. ORICA-GreenEDGE took the course changes into consideration when selecting their line-up.
“If we didn’t want to focus on the overall, we wouldn’t have worried about the added climbs,” explained Lapage. “But we hope to have a good overall result, so it was important to include a strong climber in our line-up, that’s where Cam [Cameron Meyer] comes into play.”
“The course changes make the race more interesting,” added Lapage. “That’s always a good thing. We have selected riders that can handle the profiles of each of the stages.”
