After yesterday’s top ten finish from Lizzie Williams, it was Amanda Spratt’s turn to shine on the final day of the Boels Rental Ladies Tour, finishing in tenth position.

Spratt, part of ORICA-AIS’s six strong all-Australian team, spent most of the day out front before the final climb where she just couldn’t hold on to the leaders. Thalita de Jong (RBW) took the win, just ahead of Longo Borghini (WHT) and Lisa Brennauer (VEL), who sealed the general classification win.

Whilst part of an 11-rider breakaway early on, Spratt took two third places in the second and third mountain sprints, before the group got caught by the peloton. Despite a few attacks from the peloton, the race was decided in the final kilometer in an uphill sprint to the line, where Spratt just couldn’t quite stay out front.

“Amanda just got stronger and stronger as the race went on”, said sport director Gene Bates. “She was riding well and spent most of the day out front, but just ran out of legs on the final sprint.”

“I was really happy with the rest of the team as well. We had some bad luck, with Macey (Stewart) having a puncture before the first climb, and Gracie (Elvin) also getting a puncture whilst she was with the front group.”

“Our number one goal for this tour was to gain fitness and get as best prepared as we could for the world championships. And although our results could have been better, we have definitely attained our goal.

“We now have a week to go home and rest before we head out to Richmond where I am confident we will hit the ground running. We have come out of the last six days injury-free and I think the girls really have found a lot of fitness. As far as I am concerned, it is good times in our camp ahead of the worlds.”

The team will now look ahead the UCI Road World Championships in Richmond, Viriginia, USA which begin on 19th September.
