Gracie Elvin sprinted to tenth place today for Mitchelton-SCOTT on the final stage of the three-day Ladies Tour of Norway.

Active start

It was an active start to the race's longest stage at 157km. After the first intermediate sprint the attacks came and different combinations tried to break away.

Eventually a small group of four riders established a gap and rode out to a two minute advantage. The peloton kept the leaders close, never allowing them too much freedom.

Gravel mid-race

After 80km of racing, a seven kilometre uphill gravel section saw the gap to the four leaders reduce and as they left the sector, their lead had dropped to just one minute.

Evetually with 50km to go the leaders were swallowed up. More attacks came as one rider tired their lunch but was only abel to open a lead of 40seconds.

Mitchetlon-SCOTT on the attack

One the race enetered the final local finishing circuits, Mitchelton-SCOTT women began to launch attacks, hoping to whittle down the peloton.

Elvin was able to put some day light between herself and the now reduced peloton, and hovered around 10seconds in front. As soon as she was swallowed up with seven kilometres to go, World time tiral champion Annemiek van Vleuten launched a counter attack but she was also not given much freedom.

Another sprint

Like the first two stages of the race, the peloton concluded with a reduced sprint from around 35riders were Vos once again claimed the victory with Elvin taking 10th spot.

"We knew everyone in the bunch was going to be tired today after the last two very hard stages, so it could be a good opportunity to put the GC teams under pressure in some of the critical sections of the race, especially the final laps.

"Annemiek and Spratty had some good attacks and I found a good moment to counter attack. I was solo for a lap but couldn’t hold off the bunch so close to the finish. I was able to recover a little and try for the sprint.

"We wanted to give it all today and gamble a little, especially with myself as I have been sprinting pretty well but also strong enough to try for a breakaway when everyone is getting really tired.

"It was really fun to be aggressive with Annemiek and Spratty in the final laps and we had nothing to lose. Overall we are happy with our tour. Everyone rode to their limit and stuck to our daily plans.

"I was grateful to have some support and be protected for the sprints. Obviously I wanted to be on the podium for a stage or GC but I think I rode my best race as did the whole team, and that’s all you can ask for at the end of the day."
