Williams top finisher in Boels Rental Ladies Tour stage two sprint

Wed 2 Sep 2015

2015 SwissEver GP Cham-Hagendorn champion Lizzie Williams has finished as ORICA-AIS’ top finisher for the second consecutive stage at Boels Rental Ladies Tour in Holland today.

Williams sprinted to 12th place in another learning curve for the Australian rider who is coming into the closing stages of her debut season.

“Today ended up a little uneventful unfortunately,” sport director Gene Bates said. “We were hoping there would be a bit of wind so we could take advantage of that.”

“But, there was no wind. And with a pancake flat course, the peloton was just moving too fast for anything major to stick.

“The team did their best to look after Lizzie in the final. Lizzie is still learning how to sprint in the bunch finishes and the girls threw themselves into helping her. She managed 12th today and once again it was another valuable learning experience.”

How it happened:

Flat, windy roads and no wind made for a pretty simple stage two of the Boels Rental Ladies Tour.

The only move that was allowed any leeway was a solo attempt by Ilona Hoeksma (Parkhotel Valkenburg) but her attack was also short lived as sprint teams forced the bunch kick.
