Tour du Poitou Charentes - Race Overview

With Luke Durbridge amongst their line-up, ORICA-GreenEDGE had high hopes for a repeat victory by the defending champion at the Tour of Poitou Charentes. The team started one man down before the four day, five stage race began. Aidis Kruopis was a non-starter due to illness. The Lithuanian won two stages at Potiou Charentes last year and would have targeted additional stage wins this year.

Without Kruopis, the Australian outfit focused on keeping Durbridge and Michael Hepburn safe before the stage four time trial. Although the team placed four riders in the top twenty in the time trial, Durbridge's efforts were hampered by mechanical issues. He slotted into fifth on the time trial and started the final day of racing fifth overall, ultimately finishing in sixth place on the general classification.

“We might not have accomplished our objectives, but it was a nice four days of racing. The team worked hard to help Durbo and Heppy [Hepburn] stay in a good position before the time trial so that they could have a good crack at a nice overall position. It’s too bad it didn’t work out for the win, but we gave it everything, so we’re satisfied with our efforts.” - Jens Mouris
