Tour du Poitou Charentes
Stage 5: Ruelle sur Touvre - Poitiers - Stage Details

Following the double day of racing on Thursday, Durbridge started stage five in fifth overall, leading the best young rider classification. He hoped to use the final day of racing to protect the jersey and potentially move up on the overall classification. Instead, the remnants of the early breakaway stole the show. Jesus Herrada (Movistar) won the stage and jumped up to second overall, pushing Luke Durbridge back to sixth overall and second in the best young rider competition in the French tour.

“When a pretty big group attacked from the start, Europcar had to chase. We tried to keep ourselves in a good position and see what would happen in the final. Three riders stayed away in the end. Herrada won the stage and took the jersey off of Durbo, so our plan didn’t work today.” - Jens Mouris
