ORICA-AIS has walked away from the Crescent Women’s World Cup Vargardateam time trial with admitted disappointment, finishing an uncharacteristic eighth place in Sweden this evening.
The Australian outfit – featuring Gracie Elvin, Katrin Garfoot, Sarah Roy, Valentina Scandolara, Amanda Spratt and Lizzie Williams – stopped the clock at 55minutes 46seconds, 2:55 behind winner Rabobank-Liv on the 42.5km course.
Despite the initial disappointment, sport director Gene Bates is confident the team will bounce back in time for the world championships after an in-depth review.
“We are obviously disappointed because we had much higher hopes of the outcome overall,” Bates said. “Now it’s really a case of pulling the race apart, seeing where we didn’t go so well and what things we did do well, and trying to improve them in the next four weeks leading into Richmond.”
