Criterium de Dauphine
Stage 1: Ugine to Albertville - Stage Details

Australian Simon Gerrans grabbed a top ten classification in the opening stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné in Switzerland.

Gerrans claimed fifth position behind Peter Kennaugh (SKY), who took off with only three kilometres to go and managed to stay away from the chasing peloton, led by ORICA-GreenEDGE.

The stage knew an early breakaway group of four, who created a gap of seven minutes before the peloton started chasing them. Led by OGE, two of the four were caught before the final 30 kilometres.

On the final climb Thurau (BMC) took off on his own after which the peloton joined forces to catch him. Several more attacks from within the peloton, including OGE, proved to be unsuccessful until Kennaugh took off and claimed the win.

Sports director Laurenzo Lapage is content with today’s results: “The circumstances weren’t ideal, it was a relatively fast parcours, but a short stage.
