Stage 1: Monreale to Palermo TT - Stage Details

Recent Tirreno Adriatico champion Simon Yates got his 2020 Giro d’Italia campaign off to a solid start today in Sicily, flying around the short and fast 15.1km course to finish in 17th position, 26 seconds down on Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) and ahead of his other general classification rivals.

Former Australian time trial champion Michael Hepburn was the highest finisher for Mitchelton-SCOTT in 14th place, 44 seconds down on the winner Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) with some noticeably large time gaps between key GC contenders.
