Stage seven of the Giro Rosa concluded with a breakaway of 12rider surviving to the finish line in Baronissi after a long and hot stage.
The ORICA-SCOTT team including two-time stage winner Annemiek van Vleuten crossed the line in the chasing group to remain in third and fifth place on the overall classification.
It was touch and go as to whether the breakaway would succeed all the way to the finish with a fast chasing group reeling them back in to just 30second with one kilometre remaining.
In the end Sheyla Gutierrez (Cylance Cycling) claimed the stage victory with ORICA-SCOTT all finishing safely behind.
“We tried to break the race up and force a selection on the main climb of the stage,” said sport director Gene Bates. “A group of six went over the top including Annemiek and Amanda Spratt but naturally with all the GC riders there, they were all looking at each other and a bigger group came back on after that.”
