Gran Premio Bruno Beghelli - Race Overview

Tour of Romandie stage winner Michael Albasini sprinted to fourth place today in the second one-day Italian race of the weekend, GP Bruno Beghelli.

A group of 13riders broke away with just 10kilometres to go and included ORICA-SCOTT rider Albasini. Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana) attacked away from the leading group inside the final five kilometres and held on for the victory.

ORICA-SCOTT raced well tactically, with Dane Chris Juul-Jensen active all day at the front of the race, following counter attacks and finding himself with three other riders in the closing stages which set up Albasini’s move.

In the end, Sanchez’s held off the bunch by just six seconds to take the win and despite not taking the victory today, sport director Dave McPartland was pleased with the whole team’s showing.

“It of course would have been nice to finish on the podium but the way the team rode was really good,” McPartland said. “We didn’t have one of the fastest guys there today so we didn’t have all the responsibility and that meant we had a lot of guys to use coming into the final part of the race.”
