Internationale Thuringen Rundfahrt der Frauen
Stage 5: Gera - Stage Details

ORICA-AIS has put their fourth rider on the podium in three days, 27-year-old Chloe McConville sprinting to third place from a break on stage five of the Internationale Thüringen Rundfahrt der Frauen today.

McConville’s ride backs up the performances of Gracie Elvin (1st – stage 3b), Emma Johansson (2nd – Stage 3b and 4) and Amanda Spratt (2nd – stage 2) for the Australian outfit over the past two days.

On domestique duties for general classification rider Johansson, McConville rode herself into a dangerous breakaway of 11riders before the intermediate sprint.

Despite at times looking close to coming back to the bunch, the break managed to stay away until the line, Coryn Rivero (Team USA) too strong in the finish.

“The break got out to nearly four minutes but there was one girl in the break who became the virtual leader on the road so that’s when Velocio had to really get on the front to bring it back,” McConville said.
