La Route de France
Prologue: Saint Quentin to Saint Quentin - Stage Details

Australian sprinter Sarah Roy displayed great power and speed to claim second place for ORICA-AIS in this evening’s opening prologue in Route de France.

The 30-year-old finished incredibly close to the victory stopping the clock in a time of four minutes and 26seconds, just 10 seconds behind the eventual winner over the 3.2kilometre route.

It was last year’s Route de France prologue winner and the final rider to set off down the ramp, Amy Pieters (Wiggle-High5) who finished with the time marginally faster than Roy’s to steal the victory in the closing moments.

Sport director Gene Bates was thrilled with the result putting the team in a good position ahead of the coming seven stages.

“It was a short prologue and quite technical in the end,” said Bates. “Sarah has been targeting this event for a couple of weeks, she really wanted to have a good prologue and the course suited her really well - a short, sharp effort.”
