A shorter but no less challenging stage six unfolded in hot and sticky conditions at Le Tour de Langkawi today as the peloton laboured behind a lone leader for much of the stage with Briton Jacob Hennessy finishing in 11th place from the closing bunch sprint.
The remit for Mitchelton-BikeExchange was to protect the overall position of 19-year-old Australian Harry Sweeny and the team did an excellent job of keeping Sweeny out of trouble and in third on the general classification.
Once the solo breakaway rider had been caught there wasn’t much doubt that the final would come down to a fast sprint and Hennessy tried to make the most of it and surf the wheels into a good position to challenge, but it was Italian Luca Pacioni (Willier-Selle-Italia) who took the stage win.
