Tour de Romandie
Stage 3: Payerne - Stage Details

ORICA-SCOTT rider Alex Edmondson claimed a consecutive fourth place today on stage three Tour de Romandie after jumping early in the bunch sprint finish.

The 23-year-old made a gutsy move, launching out from the wheels with around 350metres to go, leading strongly towards then line. In the end it proved to be too much and in the final metres he was passed with Elia Viviani (Team Sky) claiming the stage victory.

The result today makes it Edmondson’s third top five finish in four days with sport director Neil Stephens happy with the overall performance on the lengthy stage.

“Edmondson had a fantastic sprint today, it’s probably only the third time he has been able to go for a sprint himself and he has actually placed fourth each time,” said Stephens. “He was there and well placed coming into the final kilometre, he got a bit swapped so when he saw a gap he launched.”
