It was a quiet week for ORICA-AIS save for a second place finish in the team time trial on stage two of the Boels Rental Holland Ladies Tour. ORICA-AIS spent the week in the best young rider's jersey, worn by both Nettie Edmondson and Melissa Hoskins, before ceding the competition to Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Rabobank Liv/Giant) on the final day of racing. The Australian outfit had hoped to put Loes Gunnewijk up for a result in the overall classification. Without the winds that typically play a major role in Dutch racing, ORICA-AIS saved their energy during the first four flat road stages prefering to concentrate efforts on the finally hilly day of racing. Unfortunately the legs needed to make their mark on stage six never materialised, and the team was left without the sought after results.
"Loes finished as our best placed on the overall as well in 16th place, 9’52 behind Van Dijk. Needless to say, this wasn’t what we were aiming from when we started the race on Tuesday. We had definitely hoped for more. It’s a funny time of year. The girls were just on some really good form, and I’m convinced that they can find better condition from here. We’ve had some really, really great results as a team in these last few months, so there’s no need to get overly discouraged. I think the general assessment is that everyone needs to go home and rest up a bit. We only have two races left – Toscana and the World Championships – and were determined to go out on a high note." - Sport Director Dave McPartland
